Next Server Results (28/03/20)

Hqy0MWs.png?1

Well that concludes our first ever 'next server poll' which had an outstanding response from the community, with the amount of people that voted it provided us with a much clearer perspective on what you're all looking for from the Game Cave project. For a few days the leading vote was at a deadlock between Minecraft and DayZ however Minecraft took the number one vote on the final days of the poll. While this was happening, the gamemasters discussed between the two games and we've come to the decision to start working on providing servers for both Minecraft and DayZ immediately with huge input coming from the community as we develop them.

fJ6l2ru.jpg?1

I've created this announcement and specifically posted it in the suggestions section because this is where we're asking for all of your input yet again in coming to a conclusion for what we're wanting out of these two servers. What are we looking for from you? Ideas of themes or mods to use, plugins you want included etcetera. We want to make the servers as bespoke as we can for the community, continue helping us in providing some of your valuable feedback. I'll start off the discussion by throwing ideas around like DayZ Roleplay either Vanilla or Stalker, Minecraft RPG with a Hypixel-esque twist or just a sandbox?

Let's start discussing!

Always enjoyed the TerraFirmaCraft mod for Minecraft. It made it harder but also more enjoyable as you progressed through the ages.

I haven't checked in on it in awhile but I think they started working on a newer version of it.

Anyways, something like that would be cool.

Forgot to mention that we've decided on using Minecraft Bedrock, this allows anyone from any platform to join the server. It should increase the interest in our server once we advertise it as multi-platform friendly. All the popular plugins still work, just plenty more accessibility with that version of Minecraft.

Hey, I do have lots of experience with several DayZ Servers so I am going to start throwing in some suggestions.

First of all, a good platform to run a DayZ server on is the DZSA Launcher (DayZ StandAlone Laungher) - It's roughly the equivalent of Rage:MP to be honest.
https://dayzsalauncher.com/#/home

Next off, the mode we should look into?
- DZSA is actually having quite good numbers of mediocore RP servers, which means no hardcore RP just voice chat Roleplay with basic RP rules however there are a few Serios RP servers too, but should we really look for a Roleplay server on there? The community may be fed up with only roleplay to do so why not go for some casual survival stuff? Just play for fun, build a base and PVP with the others?
- The server could be set up as a comlpete 'noob-friendly' server too, making a few rules about PVP, making several safe-spots and PVP zones, setting up a proper trader to be able to purchase and sell loot at and so on.
- So my idea is to keep it Vanilla with specified rules PVE/PVP with marked zones for PVP only to make it be noob friendly and allow them to build bases which would be raidable during special events, let's call them 'JUDGEMENT-HOUR' which would turn the PVE zones into PVP zones aswell so you wouldn't have to worry about your base being raided while you are offline and losing all your progress unless it's the Judgement-Hour.
- Next off, mods... Yes, there are plents of mods for this game but most of them are useless, I am going to post a list of mods here with some quick information about them.

Community Framework (CF) --- https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1559212036
- A mod that fixes compability with some of the mods, MUST HAVE!

Base Building Plus (BB+) --- https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1710977250
- This mod adds a lot of new features into the world of crafting and basebuilding, lots of new buildings, storages and other stuff.
- A really cool mod for the ones who prefer building a serious strong base.
- Tried it out myself, my rating of this is 8/10. (A good mod but hard to understand and learn all the recipes).

Builder Items (BI) --- https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1565871491
- This mod adds more options for the developers when spawning in objects.
- Basically a mapping tool.

Disable Base Destruction (DBI) --- https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1571965849
- This mod disables destruction of bases, however not entirely! The administrators can select which objects can be and which can not be destroyed.
- I can explain how to set this up later.
- The best option would be to keep it realistic, set concrete buildings to non-destructible and to make a 'RAID-TOOL' such as sledgehammer or fireaxe which would allow destruction of wooden defenses, but only during the 'JUDGEMENT-HOUR' and only from the inside of the base. (Not hard to get inside bases using objects to climb over.) (This is how it used to be on 99% of servers I played on.)

Build Anywhere (BA) --- https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1574054508
- The title says it all.

ZomBerry Admin Tools (ZBAT) --- https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1582756848
- Admin tools.

OP_BaseItems (OPBI) --- https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1617874376
- This mod is one of my favourites.
- This mod adds a lot of new placeable items for bases along with electrical grids, generators, lights, lockers, storage placeables, etc.
- 10/10 definitely, must have.

Vanilla Map PLUS (VM+) --- https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1623711988
- Adds a working map into the game with global and private markers placeable to remember where your base was etc.
- Administrators can place global markers for important places such as a global trader or so.

Code Lock - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1646187754
- This map allows you to add a codelock for specific placed fortifications or objects to lock them and set a code so only you or people who have the code can have access to it.

Munghards Item Pack - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1734713776
- Items! Items! Items!
- Cool pack with realistic items, no OP stuff.
- Also contains many storage objects and really useful stuff!

No Shoe Damage - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1782854982
- A common mod on many of the servers.
- Are you tired of having to get new shoes after running for 2 kilometers? Yes. This is the solution.

Windstride's Clothing Pack - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1797720064
- Realistic Looking new clothes for the game.
- Really cool for any type of server and it also looks amazing!

Close/Open Anywhere - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1830634513
- This mod is useful in combination with the base building mods, allowing you not to have clusterfuck around till you find the hitbox where to open the gate or fence.

Base Furniture Mods 2.0 - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1847114006
- Yes, more storage and more epicness!

Mass's Many Item Overhaul - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1566911166
- Needed.
- Fixes and edits many items to be more realistic.

Squad MSF-C - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1583941197
- This mod adds high-tier equipment into the game.
- Would be cool for players to be able to grind for some of this stuff.

Toxic Zone - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1752669393
- Allows the developers to place Toxic Zones which infects anyone who do not enter it with the specific equipment.

So basically the mods I've mentioned above roughly take up to 5 Gigabites of space and are really useful and cool!
This is all you'd need for a proper server to be honest.

Personally I don't have any experience playing between the original and bedrock, only difference I've heard so far is that the redstone system is horrible on bedrock?

What's the difference between the Launcher and lets say the DayZ server itself? Would it require an extra download or anything?

The DayZ server itself doesn't allow you to add mods to the server, it would have to be completely vanilla.
The DZSA Launcher allows you to add mods and also allows people to download the mods not through the Steam WOrkshop but through the DZSA Launcher and it would automatically connect it through with steam, and do it without you having to do anything.

But still is a long ass download aside from the base game. I feel like it's maybe a bit too much of a download for what you get.

It is a valid point, it's a considerable download if the mods alone are five gigabyte in total. However if more people are in favour of downloading a mod pack regardless of the size, I'd be willing to side with that and say it's in the interest of the community as a whole. Ultimately though, I'd appreciate it if we kept to constructive discussions instead of turning this into a debate. The mod pack was referred to, not the DZSA launcher.

Honestly, most of the servers do have modpacks in the size of over 15-20 GB, so 5GB is really nothing.
Second point, if we go vanilla - we won't get new people because people would rather join the official servers which are persistent and here forever, so they know they wouldn't lose their stuff, which they would once our server would go dead.

Okay so considering that as of right now there's not much discussion going on with Minecraft in this thread, we've decided to take the initiative in teasing a direction that we feel you would all like. We've chosen this map here in hopes of having a survival RPG theme going on, the map is absolutely huge and beautifully made offering a variety of fantasy landscapes. There is an actual lore behind this map with the amount of scripts it has behind it. In addition to the map we would like to implement the economy plugin that also comes with the ability to trade and make stores too, this should create a sense of community and give purpose to farming and general craftsmanship. Lastly we will also have a faction plugin, the map is so huge that it can easily host a large amount of them.

I'm going to share a strawpoll here after recent concerns on Discord with our plans to put the Minecraft server on the Bedrock Edition. Please if you're going to be part of this server, help us have a perspective on what you prefer by voting for either Bedrock Edition or Java Edition in the poll found here: http://www.strawpoll.me/19742985

Discussions may continue for the DayZ server that we're going to focus on immediately after we've fine tuned the last remaining Minecraft plugins on its server. Any ideas or plugins like suggested above already would be appreciated, a theme is also completely welcome too. We're comfortable with hosting roleplay, or vanilla it's at the discretion of the community.

I personally would love to see Roleplay, but that's just me. However it does make me curious as how that'd work if that were to be the direction of how we'd go about it. That is, if it'd be VOIP or Text. Most other servers that I've found are all using VOIP for Roleplay. In keeping in-line with how Owl operates, I'd assume DayZ would follow suit? I imagine it'd likely be put to a vote on what the community would want to see for it, however.

Text roleplay is a possibility with DayZ RP however like you've already noted, VoIP is considered the most popular and also common. I'm happy with either personally however some people may have a preference which I certainly can understand from both points of view. Up to what everybody here has a taste for initially,
