  1. The News That Matters, Today CIRCULATION: 145,000~ MONDAY, MAY 25th, 2020 DAILY 35¢ The Marionettist: A story of evil (Part I/III) Written by Ray Costa An NYPD sketch of Michael "The Marionettist" Schmidt LOS SANTOS - Los Santos County District Attorney, Patrick Masterson, announced last week that suspected serial killer Michael Schmidt, formerly of New York City, was arrested after being charged for the murders of Denise Yorkshire and Sarah Cohen in the State of San Andreas. Schmidt is wanted by the New York City Police Department for ten murders dating back to 1989 where he was dubbed "The Marionettist" for his gruesome method of torture prior to killing his victims. The exhaustive investigation was conducted by the Los Santos Police Department, headed by Detective Roy Melendez, the District Attorney's Office, and Los Santos County Sheriff's Detectives. Investigators uncovered decisive DNA proof recuperated from multiple properties owned by Schmidt. Other undisclosed investigation methods were utilized which helped pinpoint the suspects vehicle, narrowing their search significantly. Schmidt is believed to have stalked Denise Yorkshire and Sarah Cohen, drugging them and then torturing them by drilling holes through their hands and wrists in order to make them into marionettes for his personal pleasure, before dumping their bodies in wooden boxes in the Grand Senora Desert. During Commissioner Casey Hughes' public town hall, the Los Santos Police Department stated they would release a joint statement with the District Attorney's office regarding their investigation into Michael Schmidt. The LSPD however, has yet to release anything a week later. Michael Schmidt is currently awaiting extradition to New York where he will be tried for the ten murders dating back to 1989. The District Attorney's Office is also offering a reward for further information on the murders of Denise Yorkshire and Sarah Cohen with a reward of $30,000 for information that results in a conviction. District Attorney Masterson was pleased to announce in an internal memo that "men and women from many different agencies came together to make this arrest, and the subsequent investigations happen. The District Attorney's Office is extremely pleased in seeing the cohesion between departments and the dedication to justice, as exemplified by Detective Melendez". 2. The News That Matters, Today CIRCULATION: 145,000~ SUNDAY, MAY 10th, 2020 DAILY 35¢ Los Santos County Public Town Hall #1 Written and transcribed by Ray Costa County Commissioner Casey Hughes arriving to the town hall with his security detail LOS SANTOS - County Commissioner Casey Hughes held his administrations first public town hall this Saturday at 8:00 PM. The town hall was well attended by members of the public and emergency services. Also in attendance was Chief of Police Altman, Chief Justice Whitney, and District Attorney Masterson. Commissioner Hughes stressed the importance of staying true to his platform "to be open and honest with the people of Los Santos" and has "been working diligently over these first couple of weeks to get an accurate budget of government spending every week put together" and that they "will be sharing the first weeks' results Monday". Commissioner Hughes aims to drastically reduce the amount of money spent each week and has begun to do so by "moving our internal security department to a third party contract, and reducing the scope of our research and development group". Plans to reduce bureaucracy are also in play by removing red tape on paperwork and bureaucracy between inter government departments. Town halls can be expected bi-weekly to inform citizens on what is happening. Chief Altman took to the stand afterwards and provided a brief update on the Los Santos Police Department, stating that "crime trends are constantly increasing however, in turn the LSPD is ensuring that sufficient officers are patrolling round the clock to handle any emergency calls". A big recruitment drive was announced as well to further increase the number of officers in the department. Chief Altman also stated "I've personally been keeping in close contact with Commissioner Hughes who has been a great help in improving the department in the recent few weeks". Chief Altman stressed an open door policy and encouraged everyone to step forward if they wish to speak to him. District Attorney Patrick Masterson used the town hall as an opportunity to announce an update on the suspected serial killer in Los Santos, citing Detective Melendez of the Los Santos Police Department as having been incredibly helpful in taking one suspect into custody. The District Attorney went on to say that it was a joint investigation by the Los Santos Police Department, District Attorney's Office, and Los Santos County Sheriff's Detectives. An honorable mention was made to the Los Santos County Coroner's Office who provided "invaluable forensic analysis". The District Attorney's Office and Los Santos Police Department will release a joint statement within the next couple of days. County Commissioner Casey Hughes then opened questions to the public, primarily addressing concerns of remaining transparent and ensuring future announcements are made public. The Commissioner shared his schedule in good faith stating that he meets with heads of every government department at least once a week to understand their budgets and concerns. The reassurances from Commissioner Hughes seemed to quell any concerns the crowd had and after no further questions were asked, the town hall was concluded. Below is a transcript of the public town hall recorded by journalist Ray Costa. 4. The News That Matters, Today CIRCULATION: 145,000~ TUESDAY, MAY 5th, 2020 DAILY 35¢ Horror strikes Los Santos: Suspected serial killer on the loose Transcribed by Ray Costa Emergency services securing the crime scene and taking witness statements LOS SANTOS - The remains of a deceased female were found late Sunday night by County Commissioner Casey Hughes while walking his dog on a nature trail just off of the Senora Freeway in the Grand Senora Desert. Commissioner Hughes contacted police stating that "usually a box by the side of the highway isn't all that interesting but this one seemed different" and that "this particular box stunk to all hell". The Los Santos Police Department and Los Santos Fire Department both arrived on scene and were overheard stating "this again", implying that this is the second case of a murdered woman with similar injuries. The body was found in a wooden box with their wrists slashed, holes drilled into its wrists, and signs of suspected sexual battery, later confirmed with a rape kit. County Commissioner Casey Hughes informed Daily Globe Media that this is the first time he has heard of these murders, but urges the public that he has demanded an immediate investigation and is diverting all resources towards solving this case. Additionally, the District Attorney's Office is offering a reward of $100,000 to any information leading to an arrest. Questions as to why the public has been kept in the dark about a suspected serial killer, presumably targeting women, has been raised. Daily Globe Media believes that the public has the right to know so that preventative measures can be taken by citizens, schools, day care programs, and other areas that may serve as as breeding grounds for potential crimes of this nature. Chief Devin Altman of the Los Santos Police Department was contacted for comment and said that "the LSPD is currently investigating two homicides, both of which are similar in nature" and that "this investigation is currently our top priority, however, our investigation is still in it's early stages so we do not have any solid suspects as of yet. Detectives are following all potential leads, and the public will be informed through a press release when significant progress is made. The department will not be sharing any more information regarding the case at this time". The Los Santos Police Department has released a press statement with further information on the case. 8. The News That Matters, Today CIRCULATION: 145,000~ WEDNESDAY, APRIL 14th, 2020 DAILY 35¢ Sabre Limited: Event planning company booms as spring hits Written by Ray Costa Action shot of three participants at the motor cross event. LOS SANTOS - With spring in full bloom, Sabre Limited has capitalized on the warm weather and hosted two outdoor activities with significant participant turnout. A thrilling motocross derby was held on the 5th of April on the Redwood Light Track on Senora Road. Participants began their race lined up alongside each other and followed a designated course, speeding and racing along, doing three adrenaline filled laps, with the winner taking home a jackpot of $10,000! The Los Santos Fire Department was also present on site with an ambulance and helicopter for safety reasons in the event of an injury or crash. Thankfully, the event was a success with no incidents and one lucky winner took home the jackpot of $10,000! Rae Williams, Director of Sabre Ltd, decided that second event would be a triathlon and said "because we wish to bring the community together and ensure people have fun without it costing an arm and a leg" and that said "having people swim, cycle, and run mixes things up and means people are on different playing fields". The triathlon was hosted Saturday, April 11th with a prize of $10,000 offered by Sabre Ltd. with an additional $10,000 offered by the Balistrieri Corporation and Pink Swan Bar & Nightclub. A photo of two participants racing to their next destination. The race began North of Sandy Shore on a beach, where participants began by swimming across the lake until they made landfall and embarked upon bicycles. The participants then rode along a designated path which was secured by the Los Santos Fire Department and Los Santos Police Department, both who guided participants along their journey. When the cyclists made their way onto the freeway, traffic was slowed by a fire department and police department escort to ensure safety. The participants then made the last part of their long journey on foot to the final destination; the Diamond Casino. The contestants of the triathlon at the finish line resting. The triathlon ended when all finally made their way to the parking lot of the Diamond Casino, greeted by waiting police officers, event coordinators, and members of the fire department. Visibly exhausted, participants indulged in water and other snacks, until the winner was announced. Dawson McKenzie walked away with a cash prize of $20,000 and the pleasure of saying he out performed at least ten other contestants. Rae Williams, Director of Sabre Ltd, said that "the next event they want to do something bigger than this, with several mini events that build up to it so people can train for the long run". Williams also has ambitious plans for a community festival, a summer festival, a treasure hunt, live shows, and much more, all with the intention of bringing the community closer. 10. The News That Matters, Today CIRCULATION: 145,000~ TUESDAY, APRIL 7th, 2020 DAILY 35¢ The changing face of Downtown Los Santos: more bars and nightclubs Written by Ray Costa Crowd gathered outside the Pink Swan Coffee Lounge. LOS SANTOS - The Pink Swan Coffee Lounge was the place to be this weekend for party goers, with over twenty-nine patrons in attendance. The popular nightclub was opened by Anthony Balistrieri back in February 2020 due to the lack of nightclubs in the area. What was once a relatively unknown location is now the talk of town, hosting regular events ranging from dance competitions to summer themed festivals. They host weekly parties with their very own DJ Eusebio, who Balistrieri defines as a "rather young but skilled DJ who can get the dance floor filled in seconds". Anthony Balistrieri takes great pride in running the most popular club in town but also credits "Rae and Jake from Sabre LTD who have supported him along the way as close friends and family" through promotional events and personal encouragement. The original opening of the club was met with below average attendance, which led Balistrieri to redesign the interior and make use of the vacant back room, transforming it into what is now a dance floor instead of an empty storage area. The club has kept the "coffee lounge" name in honor of their humble beginnings but can no longer be defined as a coffee lounge, but rather as a young and hip place to be for those seeking a thrill or a night on the town. A photo of the Pink Swan Lounge dance floor. To those maybe not interested in a nightclub experience, a competitor to the Pink Swan Lounge has also recently opened across town. The Mirror Park Tavern was described as "trying to attract a different clientele geared towards gentlemen who wish to attend blackjack games, enjoy alcoholic beverages, and smoke cigars" says the owner. The location also boasts a large parking lot on the right hand side of the tavern, allowing for over twenty vehicles to be parked at any given time. While not as immediately popular as the Pink Swan Lounge, the business model so far has received positive feedback from regular clients according to the owner. The Mirror Park Tavern is naturally geared towards an older audience who enjoy the company of their patrons in a smaller setting, which the owner hopes "will allow for the formation of relationships and friendships that foster a sense of community" and "allow for people to return often to enjoy the company of their friends" at a hopefully soon to be landmark location. This boom in nightlife activity will surely keep citizens entertained from all walks of life. A photo of the Mirror Park Tavern. Have information that can improve the accuracy of this article? 18. I've spawned an interior and left it unlocked at this location (recommendation of Peach) If anyone has any other ideas for locations, reply to this thread and tag me and I'll spawn them ASAP.
  19. While I don't agree with the police free and criminal free zones because of the RPG elements, the idea of having NPC owned bars is similar to what we advocated for on MTA with admins in the GAT. We would request them to make a character, open a bar for an hour or two for players, close it, repeat if they'd wish. Or perhaps present themselves at a club with an expensive car and throw some money around. I think an NPC owned bar would be alright to begin with but in the long run we should aim towards having them player owned to create more RP. To begin it's a decent idea, personally speaking.
  20. The News That Matters, Today CIRCULATION: 145,000~ FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 13th, 2019 DAILY 35¢ Paleto Bay's Speeding Woes Written by Ray Costa A Deputy Sheriff pulling over taxi driver Luis Pacheco for speeding. PALETO BAY - Town residents were left awestruck earlier this month when Mini Coopers with racing stripes tore around Paleto Bay like a scene out of the movie Italian Job, resulting in a police pursuit with one suspect taken into custody without issue. The driver told police that he was racing for money against the other two vehicles. When Sheriff Roosevelt of the Los Santos County Sheriff's Department was questioned about the possible rise in racing and reckless driving, he was quoted saying that "Paleto Bay has not reached such a level where I personally would see it as something you can say people actively do." However, the Sheriff continued that "in my experiences so far for Paleto Bay, it seems that speeding is a general issue. We are right next to the highway, we have seen an influx of people renting themselves sporty and rapid vehicles and trying them out on the highway for instance. This seems to be a rather popular move by the younger generation in the County and towns." A request for an interview with a local taxi driver, Luis Pacheco, took an ironic turn when Pachecho himself was issued a citation for speeding by an unmarked police vehicle during the course of the interview. Pachecho stated that in his opinion, Paleto Bay does have a higher occurrence of speeding due to lax drivers exams and the relatively young age of most drivers. The Sheriff's Deputy that issued the citation to Pachecho confirmed the sentiment that the relative ease of the exam may be why speeding is an issue in Paleto Bay. One Deputy Sheriff stated in an interview that "they had 3 separate vehicles on separate occasions refuse to pull over and my vehicle couldn't keep up, resulting in the 3 vehicles successfully evading police." The Deputy continued, stating that "every traffic stop to date has been for a simple traffic violation that quickly escalates out of control." It is worth noting, however, that the number of people evading is not significant enough to warrant an overhaul of the current police vehicle fleet for pursuit engines according to the Sheriff's Department. Sheriff Roosevelt added that "we've got bad apples causing issues for everyone, but the Sheriff's Department as a whole works tirelessly to make sure the law is enforced properly. Traffic citations, arrests and general license checks are being utilized on the daily to make sure people are aware of both our presence as well as the cost of breaking the law." During an interview with another Deputy Sheriff, they stated that "a commanding officer of the air and marine support unit was recently promoted." Through a coordinated effort between traffic units and a helicopter, police will be able to successfully track and apprehend those who evade police if a helicopter is on standby for such occasions. Sheriff Roosevelt clarified that "just because you see or hear a police helicopter, it doesn't mean something bad is going down." The Sheriff's Department utilize air patrols as an effective tool to deter crime as a whole, and it is the belief of Sheriff Roosevelt that air patrols will help combat and deter crime in areas they service. A majority of police resources are currently focused on traffic violations and actively patrol Paleto Bay and it's surrounding highways. The aim is that the active police presence will serve as a deterrent. The Sheriff's Department will avoid high speed pursuits as it poses a danger to the public and instead will have a helicopter pursue with police further behind, ensuring the suspect is taken into custody afterwards. The Sheriff's Department will gather reports and data whenever requested by the Los Santos County Government, and if need be, will approach County Commissioner Wuttemberg to seek solutions for concerns over speeding if it continues, according to Sheriff Roosevelt. Through the use of conventional means such as speed bumps, increased funding for police, or modifications to roads to deter speeding, a solution could be found. The Sheriff's Department does not believe this is yet a noteworthy issue to bring to the attention of the County Commissioner. The view from taxi driver Luis Pacheco's back seat. 21. The News That Matters, Today CIRCULATION: 145,000~ MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 2nd, 2019 DAILY 35¢ The Grand Reopening of the Mojito Inn Written by Ray Costa Owner Stephen Irvine (far left) with fellow patrons at the Mojito Inn. PALETO BAY - The grand reopening of the Mojito Inn was celebrated enthusiastically this past Saturday with over fifty patrons in attendance since the taverns' closure two years ago today. The popular and often frequented tavern was forced to close their doors when a tragic grease fire erupted in the kitchen and caused significant damage, requiring extensive renovations in the kitchen from fire damage and throughout the entire building due to extensive smoke damage. Drywall was replaced along with most of the walls and plumbing was redone. Prior to the opening of the Mojito Inn fifteen years ago, patrons were forced to take a twenty-minute drive South along the Great Ocean Highway to Hookie's, another local tavern in the area. Understandably, people were less inclined to drive such a distance with the intention of consuming alcoholic beverages as it became troublesome to return to Paleto Bay without the aid of public transportation or taxi services. It was for this reason that Stephen Irvine, owner of the Mojito Inn, created the establishment fifteen years ago. The close proximity to Paleto Bay allowed for the town's residents to congregate around a central establishment that gave birth to a nightlife that was formerly unknown to the town. However almost ironically, the same issue occurred again during the closure of the Mojito Inn for the two-year renovation hiatus. Thankfully, the two-year delay did not harm the popularity of the grand reopening and was celebrated with a large audience the first day. The staff will shy away from opening another kitchen, due to "fear of having another kitchen fire occurring" according to Stephen Irvine. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will still be served along with finger foods such as chips, peanuts, and other treats. Mr. Irvine also hopes to appeal to a broader audience by having a casino opened inside the bar along with a live band, providing more entertainment then was previously possible.
